Background
A crampon has been found with a wire that does not have a flattened end. If a crampon with this kind of defect is used, a lateral load may cause the wire to slip out of the frame and the crampon to come off.
This binding system can be found on the following crampon models:
All stock items have been checked and no other defective wire was found. As it is not possible to rule out that this defect could have affected other crampons though, EDELRID is asking all owners of automatic bindings and crampons with automatic bindings to check these.
Crampons with a defective wire must not be used. If a crampon with a defective wire is used without rope protection, the user may fall if the crampon comes off. No accidents have been reported to date.
Please check your crampons as follows:
1. Check if the wire on the back binding section has a flattened end or not.
2. If the wire does not have a flattened end, remove it from your crampon and cease all use immediately. Please report your finding to [email protected].
