We are writing to inform you that, with a heavy heart, we have decided to remove our PPE inspection app GEAR PILOT from the market at the end of 2024. You can continue to use the app until December 2024 but no further system maintenance or updates will occur. Access will no longer be available from January 2025. We therefore ask that you back up your data before the end of the year.

The app was developed to make it easier for you to inspect your personal protective equipment. Unfortunately, developments have shown that it is no longer possible to continuously support and maintain the application. Expectations on digital services with regard to their content and the speed of new updates have changed so rapidly that we, as a specialist for PPE products, are no longer able to adequately fulfill them.

We would like to recommend Certado’s PPE inspection app ‘PSA-Audit 2.0’ as an alternative. This provider offers similar functions and enables you to continue using your GEAR PILOT data. Step-by-step instructions on how to import your data and information about the options provided by the app can be found below.

Whichever solution you choose, you should back up your data first. You can do this using the GEAR PILOT export function:

  • Open the management page in the PPE inspector at
  • Select all of your products and click the ‘Export’ button further down the page
  • A data export is generated as an Excel file

As it is not possible to re-upload the entire inspection history, we recommend saving the inspection documents for your products if necessary.

Data export instructions

The following instructions explain how to modify your data from the GEAR PILOT export so it can be imported into ‘PSA-Audit 2.0’:

  • 1. Check the fields in the GEAR PILOT export

    Open the GEAR PILOT export and check that the following fields are complete:

    1. Product name
    2. Manufacturer
    3. Serial number
    4. Last inspection (unfortunately, it is not possible to import the entire inspection history, only the last inspection)
  • 2.Prepare the table structure for the import

    Open the file ‘Template data import’.

    The app ‘PSA-Audit 2.0’ enables you to create different workspaces. If you create several users, you can assign them different rights for different workspaces (instructions).

    If you want to use different workspaces (e.g. for different sites), create a separate import file for each workspace.

    You can also create different material sets (e.g. sorted by user or category (helmets, ropes, shoes etc.)). Create different worksheets for each material set in the Excel file for the workspace. This can be done as follows:

    Right-click the ‘Material Set’ tab in the worksheet overview at the bottom. Click ‘Copy’ to create a second worksheet identical to the first. You can then rename the worksheet with the name of the material set. You can also create further material sets in the app and edit them in the product cards.

  • 3. Copy the data from the export into the import

    In this step, open the export file and filter by the items that you wish to insert in the open worksheet (e.g. Location Berlin) for the import. Next, copy the content of the exported columns into the appropriate columns in the import.

    Import columns highlighted in bold are mandatory fields.

    1. Product name (export column B) --> Model title (import column D)
    2. Product group (export column C) --> Product category title (import column A)
    3. Owner (export column D) can be used as the material set or later added to the material set (e.g. Location Berlin) in the app as a subcategory for the respective owner
    4. ID (export column E) --> Article description (import column N)
    5. Serial number (export column F) --> Article serial number (import column M)
    6. Article number (export column G) --> Model manufacturer number (import column H)
    7. Manufacturing date (export column I) --> Manufacturing date (import column P)
    8. 1st use (export column J) --> Commission date (import column Q)
    9. Service life (export column K) --> Duration of use [years] (import column K)
    10. Maximum lifetime (export column L) --> Lifespan [years] (import column J)
    11. Applies for standard (export column M) --> Standards (comma-separated) (import column L)
    12. Last inspection (export column N) --> Date of last inspection (import column S)
    13. Row O is automatically calculated
    14. Columns P and Q in the export file cannot be imported. Please store this information with the inspection files on your computer and add it to the imported data if necessary
    15. Column F ‘Test interval’ in the import file must also be completed. If this is not relevant (e.g. in the case of non-PPE), enter 0

    The completed import file can be sent to [email protected]. It will then be imported by employees. Prior to doing this, you can check if you would like to clean up the master data, for example by harmonizing the name of identical models or trying to ascertain missing information such as the manufacturer number.
