Isny im Allgäu, August 7, 2024 - EDELRID is delighted to announce that the company has been nominated for the prestigious “Umweltpreis Baden-Württemberg 2024.” This award recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of environmental and climate protection and is presented by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, and the Energy Sector.
EDELRID is known for its innovation in responsible product design, including the use of recycled materials, the development of durable products, and the implementation of energy-saving manufacturing processes. The nomination underscores the company's ongoing commitment to environmental protection.
For years, EDELRID has relied on innovative and environmentally friendly production processes to minimize the ecological impact of its products. The concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials play a key role and are reflected in product development. For example, the NEO 3R 9.8 MM climbing rope was developed using 50% pre-consumer rope waste. Thanks to an ingenious combination of different recycling methods, the company has succeeded in increasing the recycling rate to 100%, thereby reducing its greenhouse gas footprint by around half. The responsibly produced portfolio is also complemented by the BIRDLIME 1R, a rope made from bio-based material, and the PARROT 9.8 MM, which reuses yarn remnants from production.
Additional measures include developing a PFAS-free rope impregnation that has been used for ropes in the Eco Dry series since 2017, as well as the non-anodized HMS BULLETPROOF ECO carabiner, both contributing to reducing chemical use during production. These measures are part of a holistic approach to responsible product design with the smallest possible ecological footprint.
A well-functioning environmental management system that is certified in accordance with EMAS, along with the establishment of binding and ambitious climate targets to achieve the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Climate Agreement, is now standard at the company and is firmly embedded in its corporate strategy.
However, the company's vision extends beyond products and the definition of core objectives. For EDELRID, it is of great importance to generate and share knowledge. The mission is to understand every detail of the manufacture, use, and impact of its products and to make this information publicly accessible. The company eagerly anticipates the award ceremony on December 4th in the White Hall in Stuttgart and looks forward to the opportunity to provide insight into the EDELRID cosmos and its understanding of sustainable business. Regardless of the outcome, the company remains committed to further strengthening its contribution to environmental protection and developing responsible solutions for future challenges.
