The climbing brand Edelrid surprises again with innovative developments in climbing and mountaineering. For the summer collection 2023 the developers put their focus on sustainability: The ClimbGreen collection grows, so that the personal climbing equipment becomes bit by bit more environmentally friendly.

ZODIAC 3R: The first fully recycled climbing helmet

With the ZODIAC 3R, Edelrid launches the first recycled climbing helmet on the market and proves once again that sustainability is also possible for safety-relevant climbing equipment. For the robust outer shell made of polyamide, the Allgäu company uses recycled production residues from its own rope factory. The EPS inner shell is made from recycled PET. The ZODIAC 3R is a hybrid helmet that also protects the head in the event of a side impact thanks to its all-round protection. Its new design and revised ventilation surfaces improve wearing comfort. The Wing Fit system allows a quick adjustment and the new chin strap buckle is also easy to use.

Edelrid expands its collection to include two PFC- (and PFAS-) free ropes

In 2018, EDELRID launched the world's first rope with a PFC- and PFAS-free impregnation that also meets the UIAA water-repellent standard. In summer 2023, the ClimbGreen collection was expanded to include the HUMMINGBIRD ECO DRY 9.2 MM and the EAGLE LITE ECO DRY 9.5 MM, and now consists of six models with PFC- (and PFAS-)free coating. Ropes with ECO DRY impregnation absorb less than 1 to 2% of their own weight in water and thus offer comparable values in terms of durability, abrasion resistance, and water resistance as the proven Pro Dry line.

Upcycling and style: Edelrid also thinks about sustainability when it comes to bags

No two DIRT BAGs are alike. Because the colorful Edelrid DIRT BAG is made from factory scraps from the climbing harness production. Thus, each model is unique. The bag is perfect to store valuables and items. Also the rope bag DRONE with backpack straps for 80 meters of rope is made from production scraps and thus helps to reduce waste and the use of raw materials.

ClimbGreen

Under the motto ClimbGreen, Edelrid identifies products that offer a sustainably oriented alternative. They are either made from sustainable materials, are certified according to certain environmental standards or stand out for their particularly long service life. These include, for example, the carabiners of the Eco-Bulletproof series, which are more durable due to the steel insert in the crown and are not anodized. This in turn reduces the use of chemicals. The Eco-Dry ropes do not use a PFC or PFAS coating. Chalkbags are made from Bluesign-certified materials.

These and all other products for the 2023 summer season presented at OutDoor by ISPO will be available from specialist retailers from spring 2023.
